Mountains and River is a free directory of local businesses across the Blue Mountains, Penrith and the Hawkesbury. It is created and run by JS Website Design (ABN 67 662 258 577), a web design and SEO business based in Penrith, NSW. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Mountains and River and JS Website Design.
This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it and how you can access or correct it. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.
What we collect
If you visit the website or contact us, we may collect your name, email address, phone number, suburb and anything you include in a message or form.
If your business is listed, we collect the business details shown on your profile, such as the business name, logo, services, areas you service, contact details, opening hours, photos and social media links. We also collect details we use to check and manage the listing but never publish, such as the owner’s contact details, the ABN, licence or registration details and expiry dates, and notes about the listing.
If you manage a listing for a business, such as an agency, web designer, assistant or staff member, we collect your name, company, email, phone number and the listings you look after.
If you take part in a video interview, we record your voice and image, and only publish the recording after you sign a video release.
How we collect it
We collect information directly from you when you fill in a form, email or call us, apply for a listing or take part in an interview. To check a listing, we may also look at public sources such as ABN Lookup, NSW Fair Trading and AHPRA registers, and the business’s own website and Google Business Profile.
How we use it
- To create, check, publish and update business listings and stories
- To contact you about your listing, your application or your interview
- To pass on enquiries that you send to a listed business through its profile
- To send you news about Mountains and River, but only if you have agreed to receive it
- To understand how people use the website so we can improve it
- To meet our legal obligations
What is public and what is private
Everything shown on a business profile is public. You can choose to hide your street address and show only your suburb. Owner contact details, ABN and licence expiry dates, listing manager details and our internal notes are never published.
Enquiries sent to a business
When you send an enquiry through a business profile, we pass your name, contact details and message to that business so it can reply to you. The business then handles your information under its own privacy practices.
Who we share it with
We do not sell or rent personal information. We share it only with the business you contact, and with service providers who help us run the website, such as our website host, email providers, analytics tools and video platforms like YouTube and Vimeo. Some of these providers store data outside Australia, including in the United States.
Emails from us
We only send marketing emails if you have agreed to receive them, or if the email relates to your business and your listing. Every email includes a way to unsubscribe, and we act on unsubscribe requests within five working days.
Cookies, analytics and videos
The website uses cookies so it works properly. We may use analytics tools, such as Google Analytics, to see which pages are visited and how people find the site. Videos are embedded from YouTube or Vimeo, which may set their own cookies when you play them. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
Keeping information secure
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access. We keep it only for as long as we need it for the purposes above, then delete or de-identify it.
Accessing, correcting or removing your information
You can ask to see or correct the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to remove a listing or video at any time. Contact us using the details below and we will respond within 30 days.
Questions and complaints
If you have a question or concern about privacy, please email us at [email protected]. If you are not happy with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the directory grows. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
